GOOD NEWS FOR ANGLOPHONE LAW STUDENTS IN CAMEROON: A PURE COMMON LAW SECTION IN BOTH DEGREE AND MASTERS PROGRAM IS NOW AVAILABLE IN THE UNIVERSITY OF DOUALA
UPDATED....
You can now study common law in the university of douala all in the English language. this implies that the university of Buea (UB) is not the only university offering legal studies in common law in the country totally in English .
The University of Douala(UD) is one of the prestigious state university in Cameroon . It is very unique in that it is the only university (state's) so far to fully intergrate a 100% English law curriculum in the degree section of its faculty of law and politic sciences.
This is good news especially in the heat of the ungoing Anglophone Crisis has adversely affected the Education Sector. The UD however, has proven herself to be a safe haven for the affected anglophone students who wish to further their studies in an affordable and lovely public institution by enrolling anglophones in their numbers un the prestigious FSJP even when their results are not usually the best.
As if not enough, the University is well acquainted with the difficulties anglophones face in the university due to the francophonisation of studies in that out of 12 courses for each Degree Level, only 2 were thought in English . It tried to bridge the gap by creating a Department of Common Law later changed to Department of English Law third year students. But this time, it has been extended to First year as well.
So my dear Anglophone law students, feel free to study in UD and do all your courses in English. However, it should be noted that the Department of English Law spans from first year to Masters. It has not been extended to Doctorate because the First English Law Students in Masters II are yet to defend this December. Also, English law at the degree Level is only for the First years Students(Level I) as they are the first batch. That means, next year, we should expect to have English Law for the second year.
Also, the registration requirements still remain the same. During pre-registration, there is no option for you to select either French or English Law. you just register a nd choose which classes to attend. only after a month or two of effective studies would names of the students of the different departments be published.
For more info, you can visit the University's official website here or go directly to FACULTY OF LAWS AND POLITICAL SCIENCES
